PALAWAMA recently convened a dynamic sensitisation forum bringing together women and girls alongside key community stakeholders to address pressing issues around Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The forum created a safe, inclusive space for open dialogue, shared learning, and collective reflection.
Through engaging discussions, participants explored the different forms of GBV ,including physical, emotional, psychological, economic, and sexual violence ,while also shedding light on the real-life challenges faced within the community. Stakeholders present, including community leaders, healthcare providers, service organizations, and grassroots actors, contributed diverse perspectives and solutions, reinforcing the importance of a coordinated response.
Key concerns raised included barriers to accessing essential services, gaps in emergency response, stigma, and the need for stronger community awareness and support systems. At the same time, the forum highlighted available support structures such as GBV response services, referral pathways, maternal and child health services, and family planning support ,emphasizing that help exists and access must be strengthened.
This sensitisation forum was not just about information sharing , it was about empowering women and girls with knowledge, amplifying their voices, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive meaningful change.
Together, we continue to build safer, more informed, and more resilient communities.
