Walking the Journey Together: TWEGUU AKASE Cross-Learning Visit to PALAWAMA

Learning is most powerful when it is shared.PALAWAMA recently hosted the TWEGUU AKASE team for a cross-learning visit aimed at exchanging experiences, strengthening partnerships, and learning from different approaches to community engagement, women’s empowerment, and survivor support.The visit began at the PALAWAMA office, where the two teams connected and shared experiences around their work, approaches, achievements, and lessons learned. From there, the learning journey continued beyond the office as the teams visited key stakeholders and community groups in Kisumu.Together, the teams paid a courtesy visit to the CEC Gender and Sports for Kisumu County, providing an opportunity to engage with government leadership, understand ongoing efforts, and explore opportunities for collaboration.The teams then visited Women Concerns Women Group, where they engaged with women involved in community-level initiatives and learned from their experiences, challenges, and approaches to creating change within their communities.The final stop was a survivor network group, offering an important opportunity to learn from survivor-led experiences and understand the strength, resilience, and value of networks in supporting survivors and amplifying their voices.The cross-learning visit demonstrated the value of stepping outside our usual spaces to listen, exchange knowledge, and learn from one another. It also strengthened relationships between organizations and community actors working towards a common goal.At PALAWAMA, we believe that strong partnerships and shared learning are essential to sustainable change. By connecting organizations, government actors, women’s groups, and survivor networks, we create opportunities to build on what works and strengthen collective action.This is how we walked: together, listening, learning, connecting, and growing. 💙
